"ISRAEL AND HADASSAH: BUILDING THE FUTURE TOGETHER!"

  • On March 10 and 11 there will be 2 events with the young leadership of Im Tirzu, one at the home of Phil and Malki Rosen, 431 Mistletoe Lawrence NY on March 11 at 8:00pm, and at the office of Phil Rosen 767 Fifth Avenue, NY on March 10 at 12:30pm.  Please join all those who are already involved in Im Tirzu to support Im Tirzu at the ground level.

Many of you have asked over the years - what can we do to help Israel?  Well, here is your chance. Many believe (as does, the Israeli Prime Minister) that the Goldstone Report and what emanates from it is one of 2 existential threats to the State of Israel (the other being Iran). We (Israel and American Jews) need to fight back.

This is a matter of survival for Israel.  Im Tirzu is fighting the battle for Israel's survival. They are leading the fight against Goldstone. This perhaps the most important zionist cause today.  These are not politicians running for office; they are young Israelis, all former officers in the IDF, looking to save Israel's future.

  • NEFESH International, the International Network of Orthodox Mental Health Professionals, in conjunction with Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future, responding to the increase in divorce and relationship issues in the Orthodox community, are sponsoring a Gottman Couples Therapy workshop on April 18-19, 2010 at the YU Wilf Campus, in Washington Heights. Dr. John Gottman is world renowned and was voted one of the Top 10 Most Influential Therapists of the past quarter-century by the PsychoTherapy Networker.

The training, based on Dr. John Gottman's 35 years of compelling research with over 3,000 couples, is a practical and highly effective approach to guiding couples to compassionately manage their conflicts, deepen their friendship and intimacy, and share their life purpose and dreams.

Beyond making the training available for therapists working in the Orthodox community, NEFESH International, organized the workshop in an effort to offer training and greater skills to all those working with couples, including Rabbis, mashgichim, teachers, matchmakers and mentors in the community. To this goal NEFESH International partnered with CJF, and are reaching out to all those counseling couples across the religious spectrum.

For more information and to register, go to www.Nefesh.org or www.yu.edu/cjf/gottman

  • NORPAC is the largest pro-Israel Political Action Committee. NORPAC is non-partisan and its primary purpose is to support candidates and sitting members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives who demonstrate a genuine commitment to the strength, security, and survival of Israel.

The Mission is the biggest NORPAC event of the year. It is an all-day Mission to Washington in which groups (of about 6 people each) meet with members of the House and the Senate (or their senior staff people) for the sole purpose of requesting that they support specific pro-Israel legislation. Talking points are provided. Last year, there were about 800 NORPAC representatives and meetings with more than 440 members of Congress.

Many members of YILC and their teenage children have actively participated in these meetings. The mission is a great educational experience for high school students. They get to meet members of Congress and see some of the ways in which our government works. High school students can attend only with a parent.

Take advantage of the $50 discount for early registration. For more information, contact David Zaslowsky at 374-5254.

Please register and join this year's NORPAC Mission to Washington.

Through May 2, 2010

It started with a book!  LICM visitors will receive a visual reminder of that fact as they step into a larger than life, pop-up book that dazzles the eye and stimulates the mind.  LICM is the first museum to play host to this brand new traveling exhibit based upon the original book by L. Frank Baum that has enchanted generations. Families will experience science, art and history through the magic of this timeless story. Each exhibit section features an oversized three-dimensional book opened to a page of the classic story.  Children will have the opportunity to role play in Dorothys house, see the power of tornados as they crank up their own storm, solve brain teasers alongside the Scarecrow, learn heart facts with the Tin Man and crawl through a cave to test their courage.  During their exhibit visit, guests can expect to run into munchkins, flying monkeys, the wicked witch and of course, the Wizard of Oz, himself!
All ages. Free with museum admission.

The exhibition was produced and developed by Great Explorations Children’s Museum of St. Petersburg, Florida; designed and fabricated by Bruce Barry’s Wacky World Studios of Oldsmar, Florida; with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.   The exhibition has been endorsed by The International Wizard of Oz Club and The L. New Traveling Exhibit!

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

January 29-May 2, 2010

Frank Baum Family Trust produced with assistance from scholars, collectors and enthusiasts who advised on its development.
